Frequently Asked Questions

Low MOQ flexible food pouches from 100 units — not just mailer boxes.

Low MOQ & Flexible Packaging

What does MOQ mean in packaging?
MOQ means minimum order quantity — the smallest run a supplier will print in one production batch. For food brands, MOQ drives cash tied up in inventory, not just the per-unit sticker price. ZentPak publishes 100-unit entry for flexible food pouches so you can test a SKU before scaling.
What's the real minimum order for custom food packaging?
100 units for flexible food pouches (stand-up bags, flat pouches, coffee bags) after artwork approval. Sample kits start at $49–199. Production runs often scale at 500+ units with lower per-unit cost. Mailer boxes from other suppliers may start at 100 units too — but barrier film pouches commonly require 1,000–10,000 units elsewhere.
Can I order 100 custom-printed pouches (not just mailer boxes)?
Yes. ZentPak specializes in flexible food packaging with digital print — no plates required at 100 units. If your Google search shows mostly custom mailer boxes, that is a different supply chain (corrugated, not barrier pouches). Use our AI Studio or upload print-ready art for pouches.
Why do packaging companies require 5,000-unit minimums?
Traditional flexographic printing amortizes plate and cylinder setup across huge runs. A single design change can cost thousands before the first bag ships. Digital pouch printing removes plates, which is why sub-500-unit food runs are economical with the right supplier.
What hidden costs appear on a first custom packaging order?
Watch for plate fees, rush charges, obsolete inventory on a failed SKU, storage for 5,000+ units, and redesign penalties. A low per-unit quote on 10,000 bags can lock more cash than a slightly higher quote on 200 test units.
What are the 3 P's of packaging?
Product (what you pack), Package (format and materials), and Presentation (graphics and shelf impact). For food pouches, the Package layer also includes barrier properties — oxygen and moisture — that mailer boxes do not provide.
What is the cheapest form of packaging?
Corrugated mailer boxes and simple paper wraps often have the lowest unit cost at small quantities. Food-grade flexible pouches cost more per unit because of laminate barrier film and sealing — but they are usually required for shelf-stable snacks, coffee, and pet treats.
What are the 7 R's of sustainable packaging?
Common frameworks include Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot (compost), Rethink, and Regenerate — exact lists vary by consultant. For compliance copy, pair any sustainability claim with certification (e.g. BPI for industrial compostable pouches) and facility availability.

Ordering

What's the minimum order quantity?
100 units for flexible food pouches and sample orders. Production pricing typically starts at 500 units. Mailer-style boxes are not our core line — see the pouch vs mailer comparison on our pricing page.
How long does delivery take?
Sample orders (100 units): typically 3–7 business days after proof approval. Production runs (500+ units): typically 7–14 business days. Rush options available for select products.
Do I need to provide my own design?
No. Our free AI designer generates professional packaging designs from your brand description. If you have your own artwork (PDF, AI, PNG), you can upload it directly.
How does checkout work?
After designing your packaging, you checkout at checkout.zentpak.com — powered by Shopify. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple/Google Pay.

Materials & Quality

Are your materials FDA-compliant?
Yes. All food-contact materials meet FDA 21 CFR standards. We can provide material compliance certificates on request.
What materials do you offer?
Kraft + PE, PET/PE laminate, Aluminum/PE laminate, PLA compostable, and full PE monolayer. The right choice depends on your product (fat content, shelf life requirements, eco positioning).
Do you offer compostable packaging?
Yes. PLA bio-based materials are available. These meet ASTM D6400 industrial compostability standards. Note: not home compostable.
What printing method do you use?
Digital printing (direct-to-film). This is what makes 100-unit runs economical — no printing plates required. Colors are CMYK + spot, with excellent accuracy for brand colors.

Design

Is the AI designer really free?
Yes, completely free. No account required to preview. You only pay when you order.
Can I use my own logo?
Absolutely. Upload your logo (SVG, PNG, PDF) and our designer will incorporate it into the packaging layout.
What file formats do you accept for custom artwork?
PDF (preferred), AI, EPS, or high-resolution PNG (300 DPI minimum). We provide print-ready templates for each packaging format.

Pricing

Why is ZentPak's per-unit price higher than traditional suppliers at high volumes?
At very high volumes (50,000+ units), traditional offset printing does become cheaper per unit. ZentPak is optimized for 100–10,000 unit runs where digital printing eliminates setup costs and minimum waste. At 100–5,000 units, our total cost (including $0 design fees) is almost always lower.
Are there any setup fees?
No setup fees for digital print runs. If you require custom dielines (new bag shapes not in our standard library), there may be a one-time tooling fee — we quote this before any commitment.
